ALTERNATIVE CURRICULUM+ AT NANTGARW CAMPUS

The Alternative Curriculum+ provision at Coleg Y Cymoedd’s Nantgarw Campus offers an exciting and supportive full-time education pathway for up to 16 pupils. Delivered through a strong partnership between Ysgol Bro Taf and Coleg Y Cymoedd, this innovative programme is based on a Junior Apprenticeship model that blends academic study with hands-on, vocational learning.

A Supportive and Inclusive Learning Environment

Pupils are based full-time at the Nantgarw Campus, where they spend time in their dedicated base room with our Alternative Curriculum Lead and Support Staff. Here, they focus on achieving qualifications in literacy, numeracy, and science, while developing essential life and employability skills.

Our nurturing environment ensures that every pupil receives the personalised support they need to grow in confidence, re-engage with learning, and achieve their goals.

Practical Pathways and Real Experience

Alongside their core studies, pupils choose a specialist vocational pathway aligned with their interests and career aspirations. Taught by expert college tutors using industry-standard facilities, these pathways provide a valuable introduction to a range of sectors, including:

  • Construction
  • Hair & Beauty
  • Catering
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Sport

This practical experience helps pupils explore their talents, build real-world skills, and gain an insight into potential future careers.

A Clear Route to the Future

The Alternative Curriculum+ programme offers a clear progression pathway into post-16 college courses and apprenticeships. By the end of the programme, pupils are well-prepared to move confidently into further education or training at Coleg Y Cymoedd or to begin an apprenticeship aligned with their chosen vocational area.
