At Ysgol Bro Taf, we are dedicated to supporting pupils at all stages of their education. We have established Skills Centres for Lower School pupils, as well as for Literacy, Numeracy, and Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) development in Middle and Upper School. These centres offer targeted support to help pupils strengthen their skills, improve their academic performance, and develop emotional resilience. By providing tailored interventions in literacy, numeracy, and nurture, we ensure that every pupil has the tools they need to succeed and thrive, both academically and personally, in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The Lower School Skills Centre at Ysgol Bro Taf is dedicated to providing additional support for pupils in their early years of education. The centre offers tailored interventions to help pupils build key skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy, and emotional development. Through small-group sessions and individual support, pupils receive focused attention to address any learning challenges they may face.
The Skills Centre aims to boost confidence, develop essential academic skills, and ensure that pupils are fully equipped to succeed in the classroom. In addition to academic support, the centre also provides nurture activities to promote positive behaviour, self-esteem, and social skills. Pupils benefit from a supportive and caring environment where they can grow, progress, and reach their full potential.
Our goal is to ensure that every pupil has the foundation they need for a successful transition into Middle School and beyond.
Our Literacy Skills Centre is a dedicated space designed to enhance and improve reading and writing skills while building confidence in our pupils. This versatile facility combines a well-stocked library with specialised intervention, offering a range of resources and support tailored to individual needs.
In the library, pupils can explore a diverse collection of books, engage with various literacy programmes, and participate in reading initiatives that foster a love for literature. The intervention strategies provide targeted support through personalised instruction, small group activities, and specialised programmes aimed at improving literacy skills.
Year 7, 8, and 9 pupils will also benefit from a fortnightly Skills Centre lesson focused on reading and enjoying our class novels. These lessons aim to cultivate a passion for literature while enhancing comprehension and analytical skills, allowing pupils to delve deeper into the themes and characters of the stories we explore together.
We’re excited to announce that the Literacy Skills Centre is open once a week during lunchtime for Middle and Upper School pupils. This time allows pupils to complete their home learning assignments in a quiet space or simply enjoy some reading. Our experienced staff are available to offer guidance and support during these sessions.
Our dedicated team are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive. Whether you’re seeking resources for independent study or personalised help to overcome challenges, the Literacy Skills Centre is here to support your journey to literacy success.
The Lower School Numeracy Skills Centre at Ysgol Bro Taf is designed to provide focused support for pupils in developing their mathematical abilities. Through small-group sessions and one-on-one support, pupils receive tailored instruction to strengthen their numeracy skills and build confidence in mathematics. The centre offers targeted interventions that address any gaps in understanding, ensuring that pupils grasp fundamental concepts and improve their problem-solving abilities.
By offering a supportive and engaging environment, the Numeracy Skills Centre helps pupils develop essential skills that will lay the foundation for future success in mathematics. Pupils receive the support they need to feel confident in their abilities and to approach numeracy tasks with confidence. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil has the numeracy skills needed to succeed in their studies and build a strong foundation for their future learning.
The Nurture Skills Centre at Ysgol Bro Taf is dedicated to providing emotional and social support for pupils, helping them develop the resilience and confidence they need to succeed both academically and personally. The centre offers a safe, supportive space where pupils can receive tailored interventions to address emotional challenges, build self-esteem, and improve their social skills. Through structured activities, one-on-one support, and small-group sessions, pupils are encouraged to express their feelings, build positive relationships, and develop coping strategies for managing emotions.
The impact of the Nurture Skills Centre on pupils is significant. It provides a nurturing environment where pupils feel valued and understood, allowing them to overcome barriers to learning and engage more fully in the classroom. Pupils who attend the Nurture Centre often show improved behaviour, increased confidence, and better relationships with peers and staff. This, in turn, leads to a positive impact on their overall academic achievement and personal growth.
By focusing on the emotional well-being of our pupils, the Nurture Skills Centre plays a crucial role in helping them develop the emotional resilience needed for success in school and beyond. Ultimately, it empowers pupils to become confident, capable learners who are equipped to navigate both their academic and personal lives with greater ease.
